Deborah Fallows is a contributing writer for The Atlantic and the author of Dreaming in Chinese.

By professional training, she is a theoretical linguist, having earned a PhD in
that subject at the University of Texas.

She is married to James Fallows, national correspondent for The Atlantic. They have two married sons.
